A high-yield savings account (HYSA) is a type of savings account that offers MUCH HIGHER INTERESTS than standard savings account. As an example, if you save $5,000 in a standard savings account with 0.24% APY (National average APY on savings accounts as of December 2022) you’ll gain ~$12.00 by the end of the year, while a HYSA with an APY of 4% will give you ~$200.00.

Ally is where I keep my Sinking funds. I love it because it allows me to create “buckets” for short and mid-term goals, such as vacation and gifts.

I LOVE cash back apps because every month I get around $100 in rebates on groceries, restaurants, gas, clothing and other purchases! I invest the money that I received back from these purchases in the stock market, so this is a great way to invest an additional ~$1,200 a year.

My favorite groceries cash back app! What I love about Ibotta is that it shows the dollar amount that I’ll receive back from a specific product by scanning the barcode. My biggest rebates come from this app.

Building good credit is important because it’ll help you get lower interest rates for loans such as car loans or mortgages, it’ll determine whether you’ll be asked to pay additional security fees or not and it’ll allow you to apply for credit cards (because we want those travel rewards, right?). As an immigrant, building credit was one of my first financial goals. However, I wasn’t approved for any credit card due to lack of credit history. Chime Credit Builder was my salvation!

Chime Credit Builder

The Chime Credit Builder Visa® Credit Card is a no annual fee, no interest, secured credit card that helps you build your credit. It works pretty much as a normal debit card with the exception that it reports your activities to the credit bureaus. The bureaus then update your credit score and Voilà! you’re building credit.
